Purpose
Life Australia (Cleaning & Security Services) is committed to preventing modern slavery, forced labour, servitude, debt bondage, and child labour across all operations and supply chains. We uphold ethical conduct, lawful employment practices, and respect for human rights.
Scope
This policy applies to all Life Australia divisions:
- Cleaning Services
- Security Services
- All employees, cleaners, security officers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, labour-hire providers, consultants, and business partners.
Policy Commitment
Life Australia maintains zero tolerance for modern slavery. We commit to:
- Ensuring all workers are employed voluntarily and lawfully
- Ensuring wages and entitlements meet legal requirements
- Ensuring safe working conditions across cleaning and security operations
- Ensuring suppliers comply with ethical labour standards
- Conducting due diligence on procurement and subcontracting
- Avoiding suppliers involved in modern slavery practices
- Providing safe reporting channels for concerns
- Taking corrective action where risks or violations are identified
Ethical Purchasing & Supplier Standards
Suppliers must meet minimum standards relating to:
- Health & Safety: Safe working conditions, WHS compliance
- Environment: Sustainable practices, compliance with environmental laws
- Labour Rights: Lawful wages, safe conditions, no excessive hours
- Ethical Conduct: No coercion, intimidation, or exploitation
- Legal Compliance: Adherence to the Modern Slavery Act 2018
- Local Purchasing: Preference for local Australian suppliers where appropriate
- Child Labour: Strict prohibition of child labour in any part of the supply chain
Life Australia may terminate relationships with suppliers who fail to meet these standards.
Child Labour
Life Australia does not accept child labour. Our position aligns with:
- UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)
- ILO Minimum Age Convention No. 138
- ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention No. 182
Corrective action plans must prioritise the child’s best interests.
Young Workers
Young workers (15–18) may only be employed under lawful conditions that protect their safety, wellbeing, and education.
Recruitment Practices
Recruitment must ensure:
- Workers understand employment conditions
- No unlawful recruitment fees
- Workers retain personal identification documents
- Lawful wages and entitlements
- No coercion or intimidation
- Safe working conditions in both cleaning and security operations
Supply Chain Management
Suppliers may be assessed based on:
- Nature of services
- Workforce characteristics
- Labour-hire arrangements
- Compliance history
- Identified risks
Suppliers may be required to acknowledge and comply with this policy.
Reporting
Concerns may be reported through the Speak Up & Whistleblower Process. Reports will be investigated appropriately.
Non-Compliance
Life Australia may take corrective action, require supplier improvement, suspend relationships, or notify authorities.
